Freddie Etta Mae VanZant Spires “Etta” Age 66, passed away Monday, January 21, 2013. She was a Gary, Indiana resident for 60 years, formerly of Earl, Arkansas. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse, retired from Methodist Hospital, Northlake Campus. She was a graduate of Purdue University School of Nursing. She was a member of True Worship Christian Center, 1205 W. Lincoln Avenue Suite 7, Merrillville, Indiana, 46410. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tyrone Spires; parents, Fred and Almeater VanZant; brother, James VanZant; sisters, Delitious Mae Williams, Dorothy Holt, Verdie VanZant Shirley Smith and Jowanda Jenkins. Freddie is survived by a loving family; daughter, Antonia Spires Austin of Merrillville, Indiana; son, Anthony (Dorothy) Spires of Gary; daughter, Jowanda Spires of Phoenix, Arizona; son, Jeffrey Stephens of Indianapolis, Indiana; daughter, Tracey VanZant Foyles of Cincinnati, Ohio; sister, Deseree VanZant Harris of Chicago, Illinois; brother, Hercules VanZant of Gary; brother, Curtis (Linda) VanZant of Gary and sister, Elrose VanZant Trebble of Chicago, Illinois. She also leaves to cherish her memory, eleven grandchildren, one aunt, one uncle and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation will be Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. (family hour 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.) at Smith, Bizzell and Warner Funeral Home, 4209 Grant Street, Gary, Indiana. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 28, 2013, at True Worship Christian Center, 1205 W. Lincoln Highway (U.S. 30) Merrillville, Indiana, Pastor Mose Carter, officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. with funeral services beginning at 10:30 a.m. Mrs. Spires will be buried at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois. ~
