Mireya Lujan Acosta

Mireya L. Acosta, 58, of Midland, passed away suddenly on Friday, January 18, 2013. She was born on September 1, 1954. She was the second born of seven siblings, and was one of the six girls. Mireya grew up and went to school in Alpine, TX. She was involved in band played the clarinet and participated in basketball and track and field. Mireya made living satisfying appetites with her excellent culinary expertise. She grew up cooking and loved to bake delicious cakes and pastries and was famous for her fire-hot salsa that she made for anyone who could handle it. She also spent several years working in a nursing home caring for elderly as a certified nursing assistant in Alpine, Texas and Las Cruces, New Mexico. Mireya was a sports fanatic and loved the Dallas Cowboys, Mavericks, and sports in general. She loved to entertain and host sports gatherings for her friends and family. She loved music of all kinds and enjoyed dancing and spending time listening to live music venues. Mireya also loved Jesus Christ. She prayed for her daughter and her four grandchildren as well as for all her family, which she loved dearly. Mireya will be warmly remembered for her giving heart, her free spirit, and her contagious smile, and most of all her dedication to her work. Her unrelenting work ethic did not allow her many frivolous moments, but she put 100% of her life to making sure that everyone else's needs were taken care of in front of her own. Although her work here was not complete, she will have eternity in heaven to complete all the things that she ran out of time to do here on earth. Mireya will be missed and remembered. Mireya is preceded in death by her grandparents Jesus and Josefina Lujan; Uncle Silvestre Lujan; Aunt Elfida Lane. She is survived by her daughter Selina Smith of Austin, TX; four grandchildren: Dominique and husband Russell Nickens of Odessa, TX, Belen Cano of Odessa, TX, Bretton and Christopher Jones of Amarillo, TX; Mother Ubdelia Cano of Midland, TX; five sisters: Lupe and Dennis Johnston of Hobbs, NM, Delia and Don Byas of Midland, TX, Lydia and Kevin Kendall of Paige, TX, Gladys Sanchez of Midland, TX, and Josie and Diano Munoz of Midland, TX; one brother Jimmy "Jim" and Sherrie Cano of Greenville, TX; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A rosary will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at 7:00 pm at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Chapel. A Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at 11:00 am at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church with Monsignor James Bridges officiating.
