Funeral services for Jerry D. Chitwood, age 77, Atoka, were held at 2pm on Friday, January 4 at Atoka funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Eddie cooke officiating. Burial was in Green Meadows Cemetery under the direction of Atoka Funeral Home. A farmer-stockman and sportsman, he died in Ada on Monday, December 31, 2012. Born in the West tellico community near Atoka on August 6, 1935, he was the son of Omer Eugene Chitwood and Josephine Elba Wells. he was a member of the Atoka Hictorical Society and his favorite subjects to write about were Atoka County History and the Indian Territory during the Civil War. More than 60 of his articles were published. Survivors include a brother Bill Chitwood, Crowley, Texas; a sister-in-law, Barbara Chitwood of Atoka also several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of dear friends. Preceding him in death were his parents, Omer and Josephine Chitwood; two brothers, Jack Chitwood and Robert chitwood; sisters-in-law, Rose chitwood, Greta Chitwood and Jennie Chitwood; and his grandmother, Bela Langley. Honorary Pallbearers were Richard Bond, Jerry Calhoun, Lester Bradford, Perry Clark, herbert Bryant, Eddy cooke, Johnny Denton, Bob Faulkenberry, Harley Uber, Jim Wheeler and Bill Sample. Active Pallbearers were Chris Chitwood, Doug Chitwood, Brad Copeland, John Eskue, Don Knop, Lynn Wallace and Jordan Alexander.
