Rodger Lee Thorn
Rodger Lee Thorn, 64, of Howesville, was called home Thursday, January 17, 2013, with family by his side.
Rodger was born September 5, 1948, in Howesville, a son of the late Francis (Frank) and Kelsie Bates Thorn.
Rodger was Catholic by faith, and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He served in the United States Marine Corps, during the Vietnam conflict and was an avid hunter. He loved spending weekends playing with his grandchildren, camping and tinkering with his cars.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Barbara Koton Thorn; two daughters, Kelsie Dixon and fiancée, Kenny Jarrell and Laura Thorn and fiancée, Brant Lundberg; goddaughter, Chanda Weaver of Morgantown, a son and spouse, Rodger Thorn II and wife, Milisa all of Howesville; four grandchildren which he absolutely adored, Hope Dixon, Sarah Dew, Noah Thorn and Eli Thorn; three brothers, Ronald Thorn of Tunnelton, Gary Thorn and wife, Bonnie of Glen Burnie, MD and Randy Thorn and wife, Vicki of the Whetsell Settlement; a sister, Karen Light of Kingwood; several nieces and nephews and a family friend, Michelle Ebert.
He was also preceded in death by a niece, Cindy Lynn Hawkins.
Family and friends may call at Browning Funeral Home in Kingwood on Sunday, January 20, 2013 from 5-9 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am, Monday January 21, at St. Sebastian Catholic Church with Father Arthur Bufogle as celebrant. Interment will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Howesville, where military graveside rites will be conducted by Preston County VFW Posts, Preston County Chapter 977, Vietnam Veterans of America and United States Marine Corp.
