Our mom, Judith Ann Baker born September 7, 1940 passed away on January 12, 2013.
Judy was an extraordinary mother of three: Becky Baker Love, Jamie Baker, and Guy Baker. She was a loving and proud grandmother of five grandchildren including Lacey Gorman, Tanner Gorman, Austin Love, Pearl Baker, and Willa Baker. Judy's family also includes her sister Vicki Reagan and brother in law Bob Reagan, nephews Jay Reagan and Cory Reagan and their families, Uncle Don Zellner and wife LouAnn, sister in laws Joanne Ivens, Mary Baker, and Sam Baker. In addition to family Judy had three loving and trusted friends at her bedside including Tammy Gaw, Dan Brown, and Jan Ramelli. Judy is also survived by her faithful furry canine companion, Missy.
Judy was preceded in death by her husband, Dave Baker; her parents, Barnetta Jo Nation and Jack Nation; her brothers, Jackie and Randy Nation.
Judy was a fun, generous, loving, dedicated and supportive daughter, sister, mom, and grandma. She was also a trusted friend. Our mom had enormous strength and love for life as was evidenced in the last five weeks before her passing.
Judy endured Redding's intense heat and traveled great distances to support Becky and Jamie's love for softball. She supported Guy's artistic endeavors by encouraging him to pursue a career that made him feel proud and valued. Judy was also an encouraging and supportive fan within her grandkids' lives as she cheered Lacey on at her collegiate softball games, celebrated Austin's success in golf as she followed him on the junior and collegiate tours. She enjoyed Tanner's passion for wrestling and track and encouraged him to excel in all of his endeavors. Judy cherished her time with her youngest grandchildren Pearl and Willa. The three of them shared a love for shopping!
Our mom enjoyed boat rides on the "Dad Bake", watching the waves break in Gold Beach, walking the port in Brookings, shopping, attending church, and cooking meals for family get togethers! Most important of all was that our mom, Judy Baker, enjoyed life!
Judy had recently returned to Redding from Brookings, Oregon. Although Judy dearly loved the 17 years she lived in Brookings, she was happy to return home to Redding, be close to her family, and retire! While living in Brookings, Judy purchased a hair salon and named it The Fashion Wave. Mom invested herself and her savings in The Fashion Wave and it soon became a thriving business. In 2005, mom sold the Fashion Wave and worked part time as an independent contractor within Sea View, an assisted living home in Brookings. Our mom loved working with the elderly and helping them to feel beautiful!
In addition to owning a thriving hair salon, two of mom's proudest personal accomplishments were to buy an amazing vacation home in Gold Beach, Oregon with a panoramic ocean view. Secondly, she was very proud to have recently purchased her own home here in Redding.
Our mom's life will be celebrated on Saturday, January 26th, 11 a.m. at Little Country Church, 873 Canby Rd. Following the service there will be a reception at CR Gibbs on Hilltop Drive.
