Robert George “R.G.” Jordan, 87, of Collins, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 at the Mississippi State Veteran’s Home in Collins. Services will be Monday, January 14, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Moore Funeral Chapel in Petal followed by burial in Morriston Cemetery.
Mr. Jordan was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church. He graduated from Jones County Agricultural High School in 1943 and Jones County Junior College in 1947. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Petty Officer in the South Pacific. He had a combination of over forty years with United and Tennessee Gas. He retired with Tenneco Gas in 1988 as a Measurement Specialist. He was a Master Mason and lifelong member of Tennessee Masonic Veterans Association and the Eastern Star. He was a 32 Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of Jones County Scottish Rite Association. He was a member the Laurel Shrine Club, the J.C.J.C. Alumni Association, and the Bobcat Football Club. He was a member of the V.F.W., American Legion, A.A.R.P., the North American Hunting Club, National Rifle Association, and an honorary member of the Tallahala Hunting Club.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera Hartzog Jordan.
He is survived by his daughter, Jordana Jordan Smith of Petal; his son, Jay (Morlene) Jordan of Ellisville; two grandchildren, Katie Smith and Amy Dickerson; and four great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday, January 14, 2013 from 1 p.m. until service time at Moore Funeral Home in Petal.
