James Clifford Baze, 89, of Alvarado, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 at his home. Services will be at Alvarado Full Gospel Tabernacle on January 16, 2013 at 11:00. Visitation will be at Clayton Kay Vaughn Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Clifford was born September 23, 1923, in Mansfield, Texas to James Edward and Leona Busby Baze. He married the love of his life, Elsie LaGow on August 4, 1941 and they were married 65 years until her death on June 16, 2007. He was in the wrecking yard business for many years. He began with the first one at the crossroads in Venus, then moving to the Lillian area. He came to Alvarado in 1949 and has had two in Alvarado before moving to the last one on County Road 401B. Clifford was a faithful member of Alvarado Full Gospel Tabernacle and loved helping to support the church throughout the years. He loved his donkeys and was still buying and selling cars up until the end even though he supposedly retired several years ago.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Martha Hart; three grandchildren and siblings Bennie Baze, Rachel Baze, Emma Jewel Stanley, Lucy Coble, Johnny Paul Baze and Iona Lee Baze.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his children; Wayne Baze and wife Frosty of Alvarado, Jimmy Baze and wife Annie of Waxahachie, Charlie Baze of Alvarado and one daughter; Mary Davis and husband Ora of Cleburne; grandchildren, Kenneth Baze, David Baze, Frank Wisman, Linda White, Jason Baze, Marchelle Taylor, Chris Baze, Tarana Hester, Christy Simmons, Keith Baze and Kandice Ownby; numerous great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Bob Baze, Robert Baze and Joseph Baze; sisters Ruby Lois Record, Ruth Rodriguez and Nell Adams.
