Herschel Breland of Perkinston died January 9, 2013 at Stone County Hospital at the age of 91.
Mr. Breland was born August 6, 1921, in Wiggins, was a member of Sunflower Baptist Church in Perkinston, served in the United States Navy from 1942 to 1945, operated Herschel’s Gulf in Perkinston for 23 years, worked as a warden for International Paper from 1983-1991 also worked from 1991-2007 for the U S Forest Service on the senior citizen program.
His wife, Edith Faye Coker Breland; son, Michael Breland; a grandson, Brandon; parents, Joe and Amanda Breland; three brothers, Edgar, Sherley and Ford Breland; and a sister, Floy Shaw, preceded him in death.
He is survived by three sons, Jerry and Tahnya Breland, Larry and Gloria Breland, Douglas and Charlotte Breland and a daughter, Frances Elaine Rome; five grandchildren, Amy and Paul Armstrong of Calera, Alabama, Jason Breland, Derek and Missy Breland, Meghan Breland and Ryne Breland of Perkinston; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Hannah and Brady Armstrong of Calera, Alabama; and one brother, Joe and Mary Alice Breland of Wiggins.
Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013 at Sunflower Baptist Church with visitation Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the church. Interment will be in Sunflower Cemetery.
