Elmer Lee Alexander

Elmer Lee Alexander, 84, of Rockford departed this earthly life Friday January 4, 2013 in Prescott, Arkansas. He was born October 4, 1928 in Rosston, Arkansas the son of Charlie and Augusta Alexander. Elmer lived over 60 years in Rockford coming from Arkansas. He married the former Erma Jackson December 17, 1954 in Rockford, she preceded him in death. Elmer was a member of Providence Baptist Church formerly serving on the Trustee Board. He was a former member of New Direction Baptist Church where he served as Chairman of the Trustee Board. He was a member of the Welcome Star Lodge #36 . Elmer was a Sergeant employed 19 years by the Winnebago County Sheriff Department as a Jailer retiring in 1993 he also worked part time for many years at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home. He attended Nevada County and Rosston High School. Elmer Lee, leaves to cherish many loving memories, son Rickey Alexander; and daughters Sarah Ann McGhee and Erma Simmons; grandchildren, great grandchildren; brother, Jake (Beulah) Alexander and sister Essie Sockwell a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, wife, sons Elmer Jr. and Kevin Alexander and daughter, Cassie “Fannie” Lilly. Special Thanks to Sharon Hutcherson, Sally and Roger Muldrow, Mary Jean Box, James and Linda Horton, Captain, John Renfro, William L. Brewer and The Ponds family, for all of your patience and loving care. Services will be held 11:00a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at Providence Baptist Church 2209 Clifton Avenue with pastor DeCarto Draper officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements completed by Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home 2429 W. State St.
