Connie R. Kasten, 74, a life-time resident of Atchison, passed away peacefully January 4, in Green Valley, Arizona, after a two-year battle with cancer.
A visitation with the family will be Friday, January 11, 2013, from 7:00 P.M. until 8:30 P.M. at the Arensberg-Pruett Funeral Home. A private family burial will be at a later date. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Kasten-Regan Memorial Scholarship at Maur Hill-Mount Academy or the American Cancer Society and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Connie was married to Gene Kasten (deceased) for 52 years. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Maudie Congrove, her brother, Charles Congrove, and her father-in-law and mother-in-law Clyde and Viola Kasten.
Connie’s number one joy in life was her family. She never ran out of love, hugs or cookies for them. She enjoyed winters in Arizona, golf with her husband and friends, square dancing, the Green Valley Widowed-to-Widowed group, the Red Hat Society, monthly luncheons with her friends from her high school class, Junior Guild and volunteering in her community. After many years as a volunteer with the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary, she was hired as the Volunteer Director. She was elected President of the Kansas State Hospital Auxiliary Association and traveled the state helping hospital volunteer auxiliaries. She was honored as Volunteer of the Year by the state association.
Throughout her life, Connie volunteered with the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary and Thrift Store, the Santa Fe Depot, the Franklin Elementary School PTA, the First Baptist Church of Atchison, and the White Elephant and Elks Lodge 2592 both in Green Valley. She was a Lifetime member of Elks Lodge 647 in Atchison.
Connie is survived by her sister, Donna Louise Kuhnert of Amarillo, Texas; four daughters, Veronica Sue (Tim) Regan of Waterloo, Nebraska, Teresa (David) Wright of Fort Worth, Texas, Pamela (Brooke) Hickman of Amazonia, Missouri, and Rhonda Kasten of Lenexa, Kansas; nine grandchildren, Jill (Jesse) Soyland, Katie (Brent) L’Heureux, Ann (Robert) Turner, Joe (Bethany) Stock, Brian Regan, Emily (David) Harrison, Paige Wright, Blake (Asha) Wright and Sara Wright; eleven great-grandchildren, six nephews and nieces, and sister-in-law, Linda Henning.
