Richard E. Whitlow Sr.

Richard “Hound Dog” E. Whitlow Sr., 76, of Potomac, passed away at 12:48 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2012 at his home. Richard was born on January 25, 1936, in Louisville, Kentucky, the son of Cletus and Lilla (Coffee) Whitlow. He married Ernestine Cook on August 9, 1961, in Greensburg, Kentucky. She preceded him in death on July 8, 1995. He is survived by two daughters- Jo Marie “Sissy” (Enrique) Segura of Campbellsville, Kentucky and Lova Gene (Jeff) Sidwell of Collison; three sons- Richard “Ricky” (Marsha) Whitlow Jr. of Armstrong, Ronnie Dean (Tammy) Whitlow of Potomac and Donnie Gene (Jodi) Whitlow; one brother- Joe (Judy) Whitlow of Potomac; three sisters- Jean Childers of Danville, Betty Fitzsimmons of Potomac and Doris Jean (Ron) Scott of Danville; 18 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and special friend-Larry Creighton of Potomac. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers- Ernie Whitlow, Jack Whitlow, Salty Whitlow and Dick Whitlow, one sister- Rosie Nell Asbury and one grandson- Rafael Joseph Rapier. Richard worked at General Motors in Tilton for 25 years, until he retired in 1993. He was a member of UAW Local #579. Richard enjoyed gardening, playing cards, playing checkers, sitting on his porch and watching the Chicago Cubs. A Celebration of Richard’s life will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at the Potomac United Methodist Church, with Pastor Sally Swaim officiating. Burial will follow the service in Potomac Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday at Wolfe-Blurton Funeral Home.
