Age 84, our dear Sally was born in Detroit on August 14, 1928 to James Albert and Elizabeth (Gertrude Lowman) Thompson. She spent her early life in Chicago until her father suddenly passed. Gertrude and Sally moved to Highland Park, MI and later Sally moved to Lansing to live with her Uncle Ira and Aunt Eilene so she could attend Eastern High School, where she graduated in 1947. Sally started working in the typist pool for the State of Michigan. She soon climbed the ladder to become secretary for the State of Michigan Barber Board. Sally loved her work and retired in 1984. Sally met her tall, dark and handsome Marine, Clare and they married in 1953. They lived in Lansing many years before moving to the Dimondale area. She lost Clare suddenly due to a heart attack in 1992. He was the center of her world and she missed him greatly every day. It is comforting to those of us that have known and loved her that she is once again with her tall, dark and handsome Marine when she joined him on Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Her friends used to say that, "The party didn't begin til Sally got there." Sally is survived by special caring friends Roger and Janice VanWyke. A Celebration of Sally's life will begin with visitation on Wednesday, January 9, 2013, 1:00 p.m., at Palmer, Bush and Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Holt Chapel, with a service following at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Stephen Ezop officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to McLaren-Greater Lansing Breast Care Center in memory of Sally J. Canedy.
