Ethel M. Hauser-Lee, 89, died on Dec. 25, 2012 at Kimes Nursing Center, Athens, Ohio. Ethel was born March 10, 1923 in Greenwood, Wisconsin to Arthur & Mamie (Lauper) Ingebritsen.

The family soon moved to Madison where Ethel’s parents found work as UW employees. She resided in the West Mifflin St. area and attended Central High. During WWII, she worked as a secretary for the government in St. Louis. Before the war she met her future husband, Clarence J. Hauser, and after the war she returned to the Madison area where they married. While raising her 2 children on the East side of Madsion, she went to work as a retail clerk for A&P Grocery, then Sears boys wear department and finally Red Owl Grocery until her retirement in 1979.

Ethel loved traveling, gardening, volunteering at Olbrich Gardens and seeing friends and family. She was a member of Lake Edge United Church of Christ and AM Business Women’s Association. A few years after Clarence’s untimely death, she met and married Frank Lee, a childhood friends from the early days on Mifflin St. They enjoyed 14 years of travel, family and friends. Frank died in Nov. 2001. Ethel then moved to Oakwood Village East where she resided until April 2006 when she moved to Athens, Ohio to be near her son and family. There, she resided at Kimes Nursing Center with a very caring staff. Ethel was a kind and loving mother, always supporting her children and family. She enjoyed spending time with many cousins and kept connections with many relatives and friends.

Ethel will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul who spent her life caring for others. She loved her family, both immediate and extended, as well as many friends. Her love of the outdoors and especially flowers had an outlet in her beautiful photography. She also loved singing, whistling, biking, walking and exercising and traveling. She spent many hours volunteering at her beloved Olbrich Gardens in Madison. Most of all, Ethel will be remembered for her vivacious love of life, her laughter and beautiful smile. That joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Hauser of Richmond, CA, her partner, Sandra Ramsey; a son, John Hauser of Athens, OH, his wife Linda and granddaughter, Emma; also step daughters- Mary Margaret (Joe) Wacker of Waukesha, Elizabeth (Pat) McPhee of Prairie Du Sac and Ann Marie (Bob) Springer of Sandstone, MN; step son- David (Polly Dross) Lee of Springfield, MO; seven step grandchildren- David & Leeann Wacker of Waukesha, Chris (Krista) McPhee of Mt.
