Evelyn L. Shilts

Evelyn L. Shilts, 83 of Chippewa Falls, passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the Chippewa Manor in Chippewa Falls.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she was born on April 13, 1929 in Bateman in the town of LaFayette to Eugene and Bridget (O’Meara) McNamara. She grew up near Cadott, the youngest of their 8 children. On April 21, 1947, she married Donald Shilts. They had seven children together, and were by each other’s side for 65 years.

Evelyn worked at Southern Center in Union Grove, and later at the Northern Center in Chippewa Falls, after which she and Donald ran their own realty company. After retirement, the two enjoyed being “Snowbirds” who visited Florida each winter.

More than anything, Evelyn enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed reading and music, playing cards or Scrabble, and anything to do with her Irish heritage. She will always be remembered for her strength of character and sense of humor, but especially for her love of family, which she always felt was most important.

Evelyn will be dearly missed by her husband, Donald Shilts, Sr.; her children, Donald (Eunice) Shilts, Jr., Cathy (William) Metzenbauer, Douglas (Toni) Shilts, Jean (Robert) Starkmann and Janis (Joel Rihn) Christensen all of Chippewa Falls; as well as 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; and special friend, Anna Palm.

She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel; her daughter, Marjorie; her parents; two brothers, Roy and Eugene McNamara; and five sisters, Ruby Hutchinson, Sylvia Greene, Pearl Clouse, and twins, Mabel and Mildred and Lyle, in infancy.

“Until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.”

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 5 at Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls. Pastor Mark Homp will be officiating. Interment will be in Prairie View Cemetery in the village of Lake Hallie.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday, January 5 at Christ Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.

Horan Funeral Home in Chippewa Falls is in charge of arrangements.
