James L. Hourigan, (US Navy Retired) passed away at Fort Miley VA Hospital in San Francisco at the age of 100 on December 22, 2012. James was born on February 18, 1912 in Rochester, New York. He served 20 years in the US Navy as a Chief Photographers Mate. After his Navy retirement Jim made Alameda his home and was employed at the Alameda Naval Air Station, he retired after 20 years of service. Jim often joked how he survived Pearl Harbor twice; once during the Japanese attack and the second time when he was attending the 50th anniversary of the original attack and he had a heart attack. Jim was a former very active member of the Alameda Elks Lodge 1015 B.O.P. Elks. He was a contributor to the building of the elevator at the Lodge. Jim was a very active member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association and the Air Museum in Oakland. He was a member of the V.F.W. Private services will be held.
