Eugene Rivers

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013 11:00 am at the Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church, Ridgeville, SC, with the Reverend J.P. Harrison, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in the Shuler Cemetery.

Mr. Eugene Rivers, the second of ten children of the late Clifford and Annie Gourdine-Rivers was born on October 12, 1932 in Ridgeville, South Carolina. He departed this life on Friday, December 28, 2012 at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Eugene was reared in Berkeley County and attended the public schools of the area.

At an early age, he attended and joined the Mt. Pisgah A.M.E. Church.

Prior to leaving South Carolina, Eugene worked as a construction worker. To make a better life for he and his family, he moved to New York. He worked as a sanitation worker most of hos adult life. When his health failed, he moved to North Carolina to be near family and friends. It was there he remained until God called him into eternal peace.

He married Mattie Mae Pringle-Rivers. To this union, five children were born. James, Barbara, Joenathan, Luctria and Michelle Rivers.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and two sons.

Eugene leaves to cherish fond memories: daughters, Barbara (Mitchell) Collins, Luctria (Bernard) Johnson, Michelle (Paul) Foster, Wanda Tate, Lynn (Kevin) Fullwood, LaTonja Tate and Wendy Tate; two sons, three sisters, Vernell Smith, Lillian Finn and Eula Rivers; one brother-in-law; four sisters-in-law, sixteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces nephews, other relatives and friends.

Friends may call at the residence 125 Yellowstone Lane, Ridgeville, SC and at the funeral home.
