Homegoing Celebration of The Rev. Otis L. Hawes Jr.

Otis Landon Hawes Jr., 74, of Poplar Bluff, Mo. died Friday, February 19, 2011, at the Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center.

Rev. Hawes was born April 1, 1936 in Malden, Mo to the late Rev. Otis L and Minnie (Littlejohn) Hawes.

Rev, Hawes was pastor and founder of the Bethesda Baptist Church in Malden, Mo. He owned and operated "Beams of Heaven" Funeral Home of Poplar Bluff and Sikeston, Mo as a funeral director for many years. He was a former employee of the Mingo Job Corps, the Daily American Republic newspaper and as a bus driver for the Poplar Bluff and Sikeston School Districts. Rev. Hawes served with the Missionary Baptist State Convention of Missouri and held the office of Camp Director for the Friendship Consolidated District Youth.

Rev. Hawes was a member of the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church of Poplar Bluff and served as an associate minister. He was married to Dorothy (Anderson) Hawes who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were two children, Marsha Ann and Otis LeRoy III, and one sister Charlene Taylor.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Davis) Hawes, six sons; Victor (Sonya) and Ronald (Lora) Hawes of Poplar Bluff, MO., James (Elette) Hawes of Memphis, TN. Daniel Johnson of San Antonio, TX., Julian (Kiah) Johnson of Minneapolis, MN., and Ronald (Ola) Johnson of Milwaukee, WI., two daughters, LaRita (Melvin) Arnold of St. Louis, MO, and Cynthia Johnson of Mineapolis, MN. He is also survived by one sister, Marsha Keeble and one brother, Dewey Hawes, both of Chicago, Ill. 31 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
