Elston F. “Johnny” Johnson of Lompoc died Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at the age of 84.

Johnny was born February 5, 1928, in Armstrong, Iowa to John and Bessie Johnson. After graduating from high school he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served during WWII, the Korean and Viet Nam wars and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal. He retired in 1970 with the rank of chief master sergeant.

In 1948 he married Lula Mae Conner in Biloxi, Mississippi. A resident of Lompoc since 1963 he served as a dispatcher and jailer with the Lompoc Police Department for 10 years.

Johnnie was a member of the Lompoc VFW, the Lompoc Elk’s Lodge and attended the Lompoc Foursquare Church. He enjoyed Golf, fishing, woodworking and camping.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, his sons Larry Johnson of Lompoc and Thomas Johnson of Modesto, his granddaughters Amber Bornhauser of Lompoc and Carey Griffin of San Antonio, Texas, three great grandchildren, his sister Betty Smith of Chino Valley, Arizona, brother Merlyn Johnson of Nevada, Iowa and his sister Kay Salmi of Crystal Lake, Illinois.

Cremation will be followed by inurnment in the Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery. The nicheside service with full military honors will be on Monday, January 7, 2013, at 10am. In lieu of flowers his family suggests memorial donation be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 1528 Chapala Street, Suite 204, Santa Barbara, CA 93436.
