Alberta Leone Hertenstein

Alberta Leone “Bert” Hertenstein, 88, of Rantoul; formerly of Paxton, died at 8:31 p.m. Friday, December 21, 2012, at the home of her daughter in Rantoul.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 26, 2012, at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E Pells Street, Paxton with Pastor Terry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.

Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hertenstein was born February 19, 1924 in Urbana the daughter of Arthur and Violet Mae Anderson Boughers. She married Herman L. “Dutch” Hertenstein February 11, 1967 in Paxton. He preceded her in death August 14, 2007.

Survivors include one son, Kenneth L. (Paula) Miebach of Champaign; two daughters, Nancy L. Miebach of Hastings, MI, Deborah S. (Walt) Fuller of Rantoul; five grandchildren, Penny Jordan, Tracy Burt, Michael Troyer, David Garrett, Dustin Lawrence and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael Hertenstein and two sisters.

Mrs. Hertenstein graduated from Urbana High School in 1941. During 1940-41 she and her sister, Betty, were known as the Boughers Sisters and sang on WDWS Radio. At the age of 18 she was a proof reader at the News-Gazette. She had also been employed by the Paxton Record, General Telephone and Illinois Bell before going to work at Chanute Air Force Base where she retired in 1992.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Paxton. She enjoyed singing, dancing, baking, canning, drawing and writing. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren.
