Harold Eugene Carleton, 88, of Paxton, passed away at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 14, 2012 at his home. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday, December 17, 2012 at Baier Family Funeral Services, 406 E. Pells Street, Paxton with Rev. Tom Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cemetery, Paxton.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m., Sunday, December 16, 2012 at the funeral home.
Harold was born on October 20, 1924 in Oblong, Illinois, a son of William and Verna Austin Carleton. He married Opal L. Thompson in Corinth, Mississippi on September 24, 1954. They had recently celebrated 58 years of married life.
Along with his wife he is survived by one son Ron (Barb) Carleton of Rantoul; three daughters Brenda (Kevin) Glazik, Paxton; Tammy Carleton, Paxton; and Sandy (Dale) Horn of Farmington; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Harold graduated from Paxton High School in 1942. Before his retirement in 1987 from Civil Service at Chanute Air Force Base, Rantoul, he was employed by
Pittsburgh Chair, Laurence’s and Andrews Lumber, all of Paxton.
He was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Paxton. He was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and loved spending time with his family.
Memorials may be made to Iroquois Memorial Hospice or an organization of the donor’s choice.
