DEACON GEORGE FULLER was born December 24, 1938 in El Reno, Oklahoma, one of the twins born to Mable and Kenneth Fuller. The family moved to Kingfisher, Oklahoma where George was raised and received his formal education, graduating from Kingfisher High School.
With high ambitions and the desire for a better life George moved to San Diego, California. He received Christ at an early age and united with Greater Jackson Memorial Church of God In Christ under the leadership of the late Bishop J. A. Blake, Sr.
He soon met Hartwell W. Ragsdale, also a former Oklahoman, and a lifelong relationship was started. George moved into an apartment above the garage at Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary and was residing there when he met and married Betty Jean Hunt. This couple soon found a house and their union was blessed with three children.
George was employed at Crowley Casket Company and held many positions there before starting his career at Rohr Industries that lasted thirty-three years, retiring in 2007. He remained a staff member at Anderson-Ragsdale Mortuary and at the time of his death held the longest tenure on record, over fifty years. His consistency, honesty, humility and pleasant personality made him a person everyone admired everywhere he had worked.
George loved the Lord and was a faithful, lifelong member of Fountain of Life Church of God In Christ. He was a member of the Deacon Board, Trustee Board and Finance Committee. His lifelong friend and pastor, Bishop J. A. Blake, Jr. states, “He was consistent! Nothing was too difficult, too involved or too much for him to get involved in. George made himself available for whatever was needed.” He was known for playing the tambourine and would lead songs at evening services and testimony.
On February 11, 2011, George married Shirley Johnson. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. To know him was to love him. No one ever had a negative thing to say about George. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; mother, Mable; and his twin brother, Kenneth. God called Deacon George Fuller from labor to eternal rest on Saturday, May 26, 2012. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Fuller; daughters, Lecia Fuller and Lois Marie Harris (Curtis); sons, Victor Fuller (Helen) all of San Diego; grandchildren, Jerome Nixon, Jr. (Gloria), Jessica Hurd (Derick), Whitney Evans (Frank), Kyresse and Dashia Fuller; six great-grandchildren; adopted kids, Charlotte Johnson, Roger Johnson, II and Chantel Sanders; and a host of family and friends.
