ANDERSON, SC - Dallas McDonald Ashley, age 89 of Anderson, SC and formerly of Due West, SC passed away on Thursday, December 13, 2012 at the Rainey Hospice House.
Born in Honea Path, SC, she was a daughter of the late Calvin Curtis Calhoun McDonald and Rosa Hinton McDonald. She graduated from Honea Path High School where she was Salutatorian. She then graduated from Erskine College and received a Master’s Degree from Clemson University before beginning her 15 year teaching career as a high school French and Spanish Teacher at Belton Honea Path High School (BHP). After retirement she enjoyed working part-time at the Erskine College Library. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Due West where she attended for many years. While living in Due West for about 50 years, she and her husband were well-loved and, among other things, owned and operated a dry cleaning business for several years. She spent her remaining nine years in the home of her son and daughter-in-law in Anderson and she attended Boulevard Baptist Church. She is survived by her son, Larry B. Ashley and his wife Vickie of Anderson, SC; three grandchildren, Heather Ashley Ashton of Columbia, SC, Cheryl Ashley Woodruff and her husband Lt. Col Richard L. Woodruff of Germany and Arnold L. Ashley and his wife Stephanie of Cornelius, NC. She was blessed to have six great-grandchildren; Woody, Ashley, Alison and Lizzie B Woodruff of Germany along with Will and Jackson Ashley of Cornelius, NC.
Mrs. Ashley was predeceased by her loving husband, Donald W. Ashley; brothers, J. C. McDonald and his wife Ruby, Senator M.E. McDonald and his wife Ann; sisters, Mary Gordon and husbands, Harvey Gordon and Roy Coleman, Paris M. McClain and her husband Arthur.
The Funeral Service will be held on Sunday December 16, 2012 at 3:00PM at Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel in Anderson with the Reverend Elwood Orr officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be three nephews, Eddie McDonald, Jimmy Coleman, and Roddy McDonald, along with Dr. Brad Simpson, Don Crum and Donnie Burdette.
The family will be at the home of her son, and will receive friends at Sullivan-King Mortuary, 3205 North Highway 81 on Sunday, December 16, 2012 from 2:00PM until 3:00PM.
