Norman S. Silver, 90, a New Yorker who spent the last 3 years of his life living in the Skilled Nursing Unit of the Highlands at Wyomissing in Wyomissing, PA, died of natural causes at the Reading Hospital on Friday morning December 7.
Mr. Silver retired as an assistant principal at Aviation High School in Long Island City where he worked for 30 years. Prior to his career in education, he was a chemical engineer working in the cosmetics industry.
Mr. Silver earned a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the City College of New York and completed a M.S. in Industrial Engineering from New York University. He was also proud to be a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Pacific theater during World War II. During his retirement, Mr. Silver was involved in numerous charitable activities and was an active member of Temple Emanuel in Great Neck, NY. He and his wife studied in numerous countries through Elderhostel and other international travel programs.
Mr. Silver was predeceased by his wife Millicent to whom he was married for 56 years. Norman is survived by two sons; Jonathan, married to Barbara Markey Silver, Mohnton, PA and Joshua, married to Ruth Loomis, Los Angeles, CA. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Rebecca Loomis Silver of Los Angeles, and Michael Markey Silver, Matthew Harry Markey Silver and Robert Edward Markey Silver of Mohnton, PA.
