Charles Johnson

Charles R. "Chuck" Johnson, of Redwood, born May 5th, left his earthly body on Tuesday, December 11, 2012. Many loved him and will miss him. He joined many family and friends who passed before him. Chuck was: a Navy veteran of the Korean War, a multi-talented musician, hunter, water-skiing enthusiast, athlete, but most importantly,...he was a treasured husband, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was proud of the fact that he "forgot more songs than most people ever learned". He loved playing music his entire life and mastered playing the guitar, banjo, mandolin, and sang blues, rock and roll, country and bluegrass with a host of friends and family through the years. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of twenty one years, Jamie Y. Johnson, of the home; one brother, John Johnson (Carolyn) of Rocky Mount and sister, Ethel J. Carter of Wirtz. He is also survived by two daughters, Diane J. Shively of Ferrum, and Denise J. Rahmes (Chris) of Christiansburg; one son, Charles D. Johnson (Monica) of Lewisville, NC.; step-daughter, Stephanie C. McDaniel (Joe); and step-son Adrian Carter, both of Ferrum. Grandchildren include, Scott Shively, Katie Shively, Adam Shively, Paige Rahmes, Rachel Rahmes, Neal Rahmes, and Madeleine Johnson; one step-grandson, David Carter; and one great-grandson, Aidan Cook-Shively. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews. He claimed one very special "brother", John Davidson, who loved to hunt, play music, and trade stories of good times gone by. A private family service will be held in the future. Those friends who wish to express condolences to the family, will be received at John and Carolyn Johnson's home at 140 Spring Street, Rocky Mount, VA on Thursday, December 13, 2012 from 4-7p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to "The Boo Boo Fund" at The Pet Clinic, 1495 N. Main Street, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
