Arthur Eugene Dennis

U.S. Veteran

Arthur Eugene “Junior” Dennis departed this world on December 7, 2012 to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born on August 16, 1926 to Alice Womack and Clyde Dennis in Snyder, Texas. He attended school in Cisco and Snyder until joining the United States Army to defend his country during WWII. From 1944 to 1946, he served honorably and with distinction in the European Theatre of Operations earning the Africa, Middle East, and Central European campaign ribbons as well as numerous other medals as a member of the 1st Armored Division, 6th Armored Division, and the 86th Calvary Reconnaissance Division.

After returning to the states, he met and married Jo Fern George in 1947 while working for his uncle in Albany, Texas. Arthur and Jo had three children while he worked as a tool pusher for Sharp Drilling Company and Cobb Well Services. Later, he started his own business, A.E. Dennis & Company Oil Field Services. In 1978, Arthur closed shop and accepted a position as the production superintendent for Julian Ard Energy, Inc. where he remained until he retired in 2005.

Arthur was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite, and Knights Templar. He belonged to the faithful and attended the Baptist Church. Although he never attended an institution of higher learning, he was a strong proponent of a college education. He insisted his children be educated and lovingly, and at times, not so lovingly, “nudged” each to start their life’s journey with a college degree in hand. Arthur is survived by his wife, Jo Dennis of Midland, his daughter, Connie Lee of Amarillo, his sons, Jeff Dennis of Midland and Todd Dennis of Austin, and a sister, Helen Bolin of Colorado City. He was “Papaw” to seven grandchildren, another seven great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren. He took great pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren and was known to “spoil” them on occasion.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, four brothers, and two sisters. A memorial service for Arthur Dennis will be held on Sunday, December 9th, 2012 at 2:00 pm at Lewallen-Garcia-Pipkin Funeral Home in Midland, Texas. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Trevor Lee, Trampus Lee, Geoffrey Dennis, Dustin Dennis, Trey Stone, Zackry Mills and George Aguirre.
