Henderson “Scooter” Nevels, age 68, of Mountain Pine, Arkansas, was called home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2012. His home going celebration service will be held Sunday, December 9, 2012 at 12:30 PM in Mountain Pine at the high school auditorium. Rev Theodis Brown, Jr. will be officiating. His earthly body will be laid to rest in Mt. Mariah Cemetery in the Joann community.
Henderson was born in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, March 11, 1934, to the late Henderson Nevels Sr. and Hattie Mae Spearman Nevels. He was of the Baptist faith and a 1953 graduate of Peak High School in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He played Professional Baseball with the Memphis Red Sox’s of the Negro League. He was a retired supervisor with Weyerhaeuser and worked as a Security Guard for Oaklawn Race Track.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving wife Dodie Bailey Nevels of Mountain Pine, AR; three sons: Larry (Vera), Donnie (Linda) and Charles (Tina) Nevels all of Mountain Pine, Arkansas; five daughters: Mary Majors of Little Rock, Arkansas, Connie Lacy (Johnny), Gwendolyn Logan (Willie) both of Mountain Pine, Arkansas, Paula Jones (Johnny) of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Natalie Crossley (James) of Benton, Arkansas; 37 grandchildren and 71 great grandchildren and 2 Great-great Grandchildren
Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, December 8, 2012, from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM at Macedonia Baptist Church in Mountain Pine, with Brandon’s Mortuary entrusted with final care arrangements.
