Bayard Winston “B.W” Holland, 88, went home to be with the Lord at his residence on Monday, December 03, 2012, with his devoted wife Carole by his side after a brief battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 6, 2012, at 11:00 am at Musella Baptist Church with Reverend Joe McDaniel officiating with eulogies by Joe and Joshua Mathews. Interment will be in Roberta Cemetery immediately following the service with military honors. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at McLeighton Funeral Service. B.W. was born in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina, to the late Alfred and Maude Womack Holland. A graduate of LaFayette High School in Fuquay-Varina, he attended Elon College in Elon, North Carolina, until he was drafted. He proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during World War II in the Red Brigade under General Patton. Through the years, he came to love antiques and refinishing them. He once owned an antique store in Silver Springs, Maryland, where he spent many hours doing what he loved. He moved to Crawford County in 1993 from Jacksonville, Florida, to settle near his wife’s family. B.W. worked for Geico as a Claims Adjustor for years. A long-time member of Musella Baptist Church, he was also a member of the Men’s Sunday School Class. B.W. always maintained that love for antiques and working with his hands. He spent lots of time outdoors, gardening and tending to the lawn and flowers. He was a giving man, and if someone needed help with their yard or otherwise, he was there to do it. Preceded in death by his son, Ronald Anthony Holland; his first wife, Grace Wiliford Holland; sister, Shirley Holland Sharp; brother in law, Edward Johnson. Left to cherish the memories of B.W. are his loving wife of 35 years, Carole Hays Mathews Holland of Roberta; his daughter, Pamela Gayle Holland of Americus; his step-children, Dottie Mathews Hester (Jimmy) of Ft. Valley, Joe Terrell Mathews, III (Nancy) of Roberta, and Maria Mathews McConnell (Robert) of Atlanta; his sister, Joyce Holland Johnson of Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two nephews; and one niece and beloved pets Dusty and Red Dog. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully suggests memorials to Musella Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 56, Musella, GA 31066 or to Hospice of Central GA. 6261 Peake Road, Macon, GA 31210.
