Joel was born to Joel Linton Archer, Sr. and Ermine Tufts Archer in Sparta, Georgia. He graduated from Willingham High School in Macon in 1966, Auburn University in 1971, and served in the USAF Reserves for 6 years. He continued his service to the nation as an engineer in Civil Service where he earned multiple national awards for excellence. Over the course of his college, military, and civilian careers, he accumulated numerous close friends. Joel married his closest friend, Iris Miller in 1972 in Macon, Georgia. Joel is survived by his wife and sweetheart, Iris M. Archer; son Thomas Joel Archer and daughter-in-law Lareine Danforth Archer; son Jesse Andrew Archer and daughter-in-law Lindsey Lamb Archer; daughter Rebecca Archer Bowers and son-in-law Robert A. Bowers; his sweet peas and grandchildren Amelia Katherine Bowers, Jackson Wyatt Bowers, and Caroline Ione Archer; his parents Joel and Ermine Archer of Lizella; sisters Susan Archer of Atlanta, Shirley Stouffer and brother-in-law Bob, of Ft. Myers, FL. and Pam Ellis and brother-in-law Bill of Lizella. He leaves a loving extended family of many nieces and nephews plus sisters-in-law and husbands, Joy and Carlton Wilson and Rebecca and Steve Gurr.
Joel loved the Lord, his family, and people in general (especially children). He was a tireless servant in the home, in the community and in the church. He loved music, performing with local choirs, barbershop groups, and in many local community theatre productions. He was an active member of the choir and was a deacon at First Presbyterian Church in Macon and a former elder and deacon at Perry Presbyterian Church in Perry, Georgia. May it be rightfully said, “Well done, My good and faithful servant; be thou at peace.”
The Archer family is grateful to its extended family and friends for their outpouring of love in our time of bereavement. Donations may be made in Joel’s memory to Covenant Care Services, at 3950 Ridge Ave. Macon, GA 31210.
