Edward “Stone” Polk, 85, of Rockford departed this earthly life Monday, November 26, 2012 after a sudden illness. He was born August 16, 1927 in Whiteville, Tennessee the son of Robert Sr. and Addie Polk. Edward lived in Rockford since 1950 coming from Tennessee. He married the former Flora Craigg August of 1951. Edward was employed 31 years as a Platter by National Lock Co. before retiring. He was co-owner and operator of Bob & Ed’s Idle Inn for 39 1/2 years before closing in 2008. Edward was a former member of the Rockford Elks Club. He attended schools in Tennessee. Edward leaves to cherish many loving memories, his wife of 61 years, Flora Polk; three sons, James Edward (Ella) Polk, Geary Polk, and Falando (Kelly) McNeal; two step daughters, Annie Blacknell and Joyce Stapleton; 34 grandchildren a host of great grandchildren; one brother, Willie Humphrey; sister in law, Frances Taylor-Allen; a host of aunts, uncles other relatives and friends including god daughter, Jackie (Freddie) Poole, special care giver, Linda (Terrence) Williams and special friend Marshall Bates. He was predeceased by his son, Tommy Polk, two brothers, Robert Polk Jr. and James Morrow and sister, Georgia Bell; god grandson, Torry Poole; cousin, Elizabeth Spencer. Services will be held 12:00 noon Monday, December 3, 2012 at Macedonia Baptist Church 1720 Perry Bennett Way ( former Morgan Street) Visitation will be held from 2:00p.m. until 5:00p.m. Sunday, December 2, 2012 at Carl E. Ponds Funeral Home 2429 W. State St.
