Klaus Wilhelm Groeger
Born Seattle Washington, May 8, 1930 - Died November 21, 2012
Klaus graduated from Lincoln High School, Seattle Washington in 1948. In June he enlisted in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1952. He then went on to college at Brigham Young University where he received his Bachelor’s degree. After working at Convair for ten years, he went to work with the Department of Defense as supervisor of the Naval Air Rework Facility Coronado, California. In 1982 he transferred to Naval Air Logistics Center, Patuxent River, Maryland where he was instrumental in developing and implementing the financial computer systems for all the Naval Air Rework Facilities in the United States. After retirement in 1987 he and Sarah moved to Pensacola. They enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, spending summers in Bellingham Washington, showing Sarah and the grandkids the Western United States. Since he had done some geological work in the West, he knew many little out of the way places of interest and beauty, and always enjoyed showing them his grandson Tyler who was his sidekick and granddaughter Kiley who was constantly by his side.
Klaus was an avid hunter (hunting elk in Colorado), enjoyed golfing, riding his motorcycle, and working in the yard, where he could outwork most 30 year olds. He also enjoyed teaching his kids valuable life skills instilling important virtues of honesty and caring.
Klaus is preceded in death by his parents Max and Wally Groeger, his sister Rosemarie Groeger, and granddaughter Rebecca Groeger. He is survived by his wife Sarah Gallagher Groeger, and his former wife Barbara Johns Groeger, Five children, Eric Groeger, Shari Leavitt, David Groeger, Diane Zacchilli, Heidi Blanc, three step-children, Katie Krasinski, Dawn Drew, Jeannie Trammell. Grandchildren: Gina Cooley, Bradley Leavitt, Kimberly Jones, Gregory Leavitt, Jeffrey Leavitt, Katie Sabin, Melanie Leavitt, Charles Groeger-Nutick, Anthony Saksa, Kelli Groeger, Michelle Groeger, Melia Groeger, Rachael Reese, Ryan, Zachary and Zoe Zachilli, Trevor, Mitch, Tara, Dallin Blanc. Audra Hales, Tyler Krasinski, Kiley Drew, Sarah Trammell, and Bryson Cline. Great Grandchildren: Alexander and Maxmillian Cooley, Vanessa, Daniela, Talia Leavitt, Axton, Kenzington Leavitt, and Camille Leavitt.
The family would like to thank President Bradshaw, of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for his kindness that brought much peace to Klaus and our family.To Monsignior Steven Bosso, for his kindnesses. To his many good friends, especially Al and Bev Doten, Dr. David and Rose Nye, Ginger and Ben Williams, Marcus and Sylvanna Allen for all of their help this last year. To his sons Eric and David who have helped so much. And a special thanks to the two little grandchildren, Sarah Trammell and Bryson Cline whose hugs and kisses to "My Honey" brought so much sunshine to his last days. And lastly to Jeannie who has been there night and day taking care of him - thank you.
Services to be held Tuesday 11am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bishop Gagliano officiating. Burial at Barrancas National Cemetery NAS Pensacola at 1:15pm. The Patriot Honor Guard will be escorting Mr. Groeger to the cemetery.
