Melvin Ray Baker

Melvin Baker, 76 of Chillicothe, passed away Sunday November 25, 2012, at his family's home in Gallatin. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, November 30th at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Private family Inurnment at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin Lions Club.

Melvin was born September 25, 1936, to Marvin and Grace (Simpson) Baker in Cameron, MO. Melvin attended school at Cameron and Bethany High School. Afterwards, Melvin moved to Colorado and began his career working as a lineman for Bell West Telephone Company, where he dedicated 36 years of service. Upon retirement, Melvin moved to Gallatin, MO, with his brother Carl for a couple of years before permanently residing in Chillicothe, MO. Melvin was a member of the Elks Lodge in Chillicothe and also a member of the Eagle’s Club.

Melvin loved every aspect of Colorado from the wildlife to the beauty of the mountains. He enjoyed fishing, always eager for that big catch. Melvin moved back to Missouri to be closer to his family. His brother, Carl, taught him how to play Bingo, and Melvin was soon hooked. He always looked forward to the Friday night outings at the Bingo Hall with Carl and from then on never missed a Bingo game in the area. Melvin was a family oriented man and will be missed by those who knew and loved him. Melvin always had a smile on his face, a good sense of humor and a man of good character.

Melvin is preceded in death by his parents and brother Carl Baker.

Melvin is survived by his son, Jerry Baker of Grand Junction, CO, daughters, Jennifer Baker and Linda Hunter, both of Denver, CO, brother, Lloyd Baker of Bea Branch, AR, grandchildren, Rainne Birdsong, Racheal Hunter, Sarah Hunter, Jordan Baker, Dana Baker, Evan Baker and his great-grandchildren, Trinity and Chloe.
