Sallie Davis

Davis, Sallie Rosetta (nee Zeigler) Sallie Rosetta Davis, resident of East Chicago, Indiana, age 66, passed away on Thursday,November 15, 2012. She was born on November 4, 1946 to the late Pauline Mattie and James Zeigler. In June of 1964, she graduated from East Chicago Washington High School. She attended Indiana University where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education. She received her Master’s Degree (MLS) in Library Science from Indiana University Purdue University (IUPUI). She was employed by the East Chicago Public Library for 24 years, in the positions of Outreach Specialist, Outreach Coordinator, Administrator for the Circulation/Audio Visual Departments, Associate Director for Circulation/Audio Visual, Technical Services Departments and Associate Director for the East Chicago Historical Room. She was a member of the Women’s Improvement Club, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, board member of the East Chicago Education Foundation, member of African Americans United and served on the East Chicago Public Library Board of Trustees as Secretary and Vice-President. She was a member of Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church and sang in the Voices of Tabernacle Choir. Sallie is survived by her two sons, Jerry Lee Davis, Jr. and Jason Lovell Perkins, both of East Chicago; sister, Norma Denise Sims of Lexington, Kentucky; brother, Derryl (Veronica) Zeigler of Hammond, Indiana; niece, Kiana Nichole (Jaunte) Jenkins of Lexington, Kentucky; and Nina Zeigler of Gary, Indiana; great nephews, Jaunte Jenkins Jr., Javon Jenkins of Lexington, Kentucky and Jamarcus Vanzant of Gary, Indiana. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 3715 Butternut Street, East Chicago, Indiana, Reverend Dr. James H. Hunter officiating. Interment, Fern Oak Cemetery, Griffith, Indiana. Smith, Bizzell and Warner Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. ~
