Frank Gene Martin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, educator, pharmacist, mentor and friend died November 17, 2012 in Pensacola, Florida. He was 74. Born March 15, 1938 in Clarksville, Tennessee to Lillie Mae and James Eugene Martin, Gene received his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy before serving as a First Lieutenant in the United States Army from 1960-63. He received his Ph.D. in pharmacology from the University of Tennessee in 1969. Gene was a faculty member at the University of Kansas School of Pharmacy from 1968 to 1987, where he also served as Associate Dean. In 1987 he moved to Pensacola, where he worked as a senior pharmacist at Baptist Hospital from 1987 until his retirement in 2006.
Gene is survived by his wife of 53 years, Peggy Walden Martin; daughter Megan Culig and husband Michael of Pittsburgh; their children Martin, Caroline, Amy and Leah; son Patrick Martin and wife Kathleen and their son Henry of Pensacola; his mother Lillie Mae Martin and a sister, Bettye Malone of Nashville.
Memorial services are planned for 11 a.m. Saturday November 24, 2012 at First United Methodist Church, 6 East Wright Street, Pensacola, FL., Rev. Wesley Wachob officiating. Gene requested that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Manna Food Bank in care of the church.
