Claudia Eberly Maul de Andrade, 66, of Beulah, passed away suddenly on November 14, 2012, due to a tragic automobile accident near Frankfort.
Claudia was born July 14, 1946, in Owosso, to Samuel F. and Christina A. Eberly. Her early years were spent in Owosso, but she grew up at Big Platte Lake in Honor. Claudia was an adventurous child and loved living at the lake. Her favorite activities were hunting for Morel Mushrooms and Petoskey Stones. She loved animals and nature in all forms.
Claudia was the first Queen of the National Coho Festival held annually in Honor. She was so pleased to be included as part of the annual parade this past August.
Claudia attended Honor Elementary School, Honor High School, and upon consolidation, graduated from Benzie Central in 1964. Claudia was a Registered Nurse, graduating with her R.N. from Indiana University in Indiana, Pennsylvania. She moved to California and was a Nursing Instructor and Wellness Nurse for years at College of the Desert until her retirement.
Claudia loved travel and experienced numerous adventures while visiting all seven continents. She made many trips to Africa as a nurse with the Mercy Ships Program, was the first woman to achieve Merchant Marine Certification, and traveled as a crew member on several merchant freighter voyages all over the world. She continued to be an adventurous individual her entire life.
Claudia Eberly married Robson Maul de Andrade, a native of Brazil, spending time both in America and Brazil. Claudia and Robson had one son, Sam Eberly Andrade, born in 1987 in Frankfort, Michigan, returning to California shortly thereafter. The family returned to Michigan periodically to visit family and friends.
Claudia is survived by her son, Sam Eberly Maul de Andrade of Indio, California; her husband, Robson Maul de Andrade Filho of Brazil; her mother, Christina A. Conklin of Frankfort; her aunt, Garnet Brower of Grove City, Pennsylvania; her uncle Paul Hesse of Cheyenne, Wyoming; her sisters, Rennie (Charles) Corrigan Kalispell, Montana, Margaret Olson of Raleigh, North Carolina; her nieces Kristi (Jim) Corrigan-Troup, Ursula (Michael) Olson Forrester, nephew Troy (Angela) Olson; her great-nephews and nieces, Jamie Troup, Caroline Forrester, Henry Forrester, Bailey Olson, Jadon Olson, Hannah Grace Olson; numerous cousins; and many Brazilian relatives.
Claudia was preceeded in death by her Father, Samuel F. Eberly in 1981 and her brother-in-law Larry Olson.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home in Beulah. Interment will follow in the Benzonia Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until time of services at the Bennett-Barz Funeral Home.
