Richard E. George, 84 passed away peacefully in his home on Nov. 16th 2012. Richard was a native of Delray Beach, born on Nov. 1st 1928. He was the 4th son of Abraham and Leina George who immigrated from Lebanon and first settled in Delray Beach in 1908. Richard grew up in the town with a large family of four brothers, three sisters along with first cousins Ernie, Roy, Charlie, and Sandy Simon. Richard worked in the family business, A. George and Sons, which was a Fine Men’s Clothing Store on Atlantic Avenue that was established in 1911. It was at the time the longest operating men’s store in the State of Florida and one of only 400 stores in the United States that was family owned and operated at the time, until its’ closing in 1997. He continued to manage family properties on Atlantic Avenue until his passing. Richard and his wife, Theresa, were faithful and active members at St. Vincent Ferrer Church for over 50 years. He was a family man and was easily identified in town by his red/white 1955 Classic Chevy Bel Air. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and entertaining his family and friends with his famous BBQ and traditional Lebanese meals. Richard attended Delray Beach Elementary, High School and the University of Florida in Gainesville. He was a friendly, kind and generous man who was respectful and considerate of everyone he met. Richard is survived by his sons: Fr. Richard E. George II, Joseph and wife Jamie George, Steven George, his sister Lydia Welch of West Palm Beach and brother Dr. Robert George of Ft. Lauderdale. He is predeceased by his wife Theresa, who he was married and devoted to for 50 years and his brothers: William George, Edward George, John George, and sister’s Judy Potts, and Kay David. Visitation will be held at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, 840 George Bush Blvd., Delray Beach on Monday, November 19th at 6:00 P.M. followed by a wake service at 7:30 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 20th at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church at 10:00 A.M, followed by Christian Burial.
