WILLIAM PAXTON STEVENSON II

William P. “Bill” Stevenson of New London, NH passed away on the 14th of November 2012. Bill was born on April 4th, 1921 in Ashland, Kentucky to Margarethe Blancke and Walker Woods Stevenson.

Most of Bill’s childhood was spent in Essex Fells, New Jersey. He graduated from the Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, NJ and then continued on to Princeton University from where he graduated in 1943 with a B.S.E.

After college, Bill joined the US Navy from 1943 – 1946 during World War II. Here his specialty training was in Anti Submarine Warfare and Minecraft. His campaign ribbons were from the American Theatre World War II Victory, the European African, Middle East Campaign, and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign – receiving 2 stars Okinawa and 2 stars Mine Sweeping China Sea.

On October 2, 1948 he married Andree Audette in Essex Fells, NJ. They had 3 daughters. Bill, Andree and the 3 girls had a wonderful life during Bill’s 36 year career with the DuPont de Nemours Company - experiencing life in many different places. They lived in the Wilmington, Delaware area many times; in both Charleston and Parkersburg, West Virginia; and in Dordrecht, The Netherlands and Geneva, Switzerland. In every location they made wonderful lifelong friends and had great experiences.

During Bill’s career with the DuPont Company he first worked with the fabricating of Nylon, Orlon and Delrin. While in Dordrecht he became Assistant Plant Manager, and then in Geneva became Director of Physical Distribution and Employee Relations in Europe. After returning to the DuPont headquarters in Wilmington, DE, Bill worked as Manager of International Distribution until his retirement in 1983.

Once Bill retired, he and Andree moved to Eastman, New Hampshire where they fully enjoyed life. They made wonderful friends who shared their love of skiing, hiking, canoeing, tennis and golf.

Bill is survived by his wife, Andree ( New London, NH); daughters Wendy (Donn) Livoni of Hamilton, MT, Karen Stevenson of Geneva, Switzerland and Andree (Keith) Knudsen of Albany, CA . His grandchildren include Adrienne, Casey, Olivia, Sydney and Callie, and great granddaughter Hazel.

Bill – husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend – will be greatly missed. We all were very lucky to have had him in our lives for such a long time. We love you very much.

The family would like to thank the Clough Center in New London, NH and the Lake Sunapee Hospice for all their care and support for Bill. There will be a gathering to share memories of Bill and to celebrate his life at a later date.
