James Archer Benton, 93, of Honor, formerly of Muskegon, died Monday, November 5, 2012, at The Maples in Frankfort. Jim was born July 29, 1919, in Muskegon, the son of Earl and Hazel (Archer) Benton.

Jim had a passion for flying. He was a Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. During WWII, he was a Flight Instructor and a B-25 Bomber Pilot. Jim was Vice President of Muskegon Paper Box Company. He was a Dale Carnegie Course Instructor. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his family and friends on the Platte River in Honor.

On September 14, 1944, in Clarksdale, Mississippi, Jim married Lanelle “Cookie” Cook who survives him. He is also survived by: his daughters, Susan (David) Benton Robarge of Muskegon, Barbara (Ron) Wirgau of Rogers City, and Becky (Mike) MacBlain of Farwell; 16 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.

Jim was preceded in death by: his parents, and his sister, Arlene thunfors.

Memorial services will be held at a later date.

The Bennett-Barz Funeral Home, in Beulah, is in charge of arrangements.
