Joan L. Goben

Joan L. Goben, 75 of Gallatin, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012, at the Daviess County Nursing and Rehab in Gallatin. Memorial services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 17th at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Inurnment will be at Lake Viking Cemetery, near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lake Viking Church, in care of McWilliams Funeral Home, 1329 W. Grand, Gallatin, MO 64640.

Joan L. Goben was born February 20, 1937 to Leo and Amy Irene (Fox) Wood in Manhattan, KS. She graduated from Benton High School in St. Joseph and immediately began her career in the restaurant industry. Joni moved to CA and worked at several establishments. Her great personality and attention to detail gave her the ability to succeed wherever she was employed. In 1986, Joni moved back to MO and married the love of her life Preston Goben in Amazonia, MO, he preceded her in death in 2004. The couple moved to Lake Viking to make their home and enjoy the amenities and beauty of the lake. She opened Joni’s Café in Gallatin and continued her passion for the business. She never met a stranger and was always eager to please her customers. The last few years you could find Joni working at the Corner Café in Gallatin where she made lasting relationships.

Joni was a member of the Lake Viking Church and enjoyed the fellowship she shared with her church family. She loved to fish and always looked forward to camping trips. In her spare time you could find her working on crafts. She always had a project waiting. She greatly enjoyed the time she spent with her family. Joni’s great sense of humor, ability to make a person smile and devotion to her family and friends will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Joni was preceded in death by her parents; husband Preston Goben, and son Ronald Conforti.

Joni is survived by her children, Dianna Armenta and husband David, Cynthia Lacey-Kachelmeier and husband Ronald, Frank Conforti and wife Beccie, and LaDonna Lyons, 2 sisters, Darlyne Geiler and husband Charles and Maxine Hale and husband Earl. Joni has 4 grandchildren.
