Donald A. “Johnny” Bowers, beloved husband of H. Lee Bowers, was born in Halltown, WV on December 4, 1928, and passed away November 10, 2012, the son of the late Winerd “Gus” Bowers and Freeda Bowers Moler.

He was of the Presbyterian faith, a graduate of Harpers Ferry High School, attended Shepherd College, and served in the Army, stationed in Fairbanks, Alaska from 1945 to 1948. He was employed for 18 years by Fairchild Industries, Ranson Products, and by Rust-Oleum in Williamsport, MD, for 18 years retiring in 1993. Johnny loved sports, playing softball with the Halltown Paperboard Team, was nominated to the Winchester Fast Pitch League in 2006, and was an avid fan of the Washington Redskins, WV Mountaineers and the Washington Capitals.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, Lester Moler, a brother, William Elwood “Slats” Bowers and wife, Myrna, a sister, Ella Mae Muse and her husband, Alton, all of Halltown; a sister, Betty J. Sipe and a brother, Thomas H. Bowers and his wife, Norma, all of Charles Town, WV.

Surviving are his wife, a brother, J. Douglas Bowers and his wife, Bobbi, a close brother-in-law, Lee Sipe, a very dear and devoted niece, Robbin Spalding, a special and supportive nephew, Kenneth Muse and a good friend, Elizabeth Renner, several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #948 in Charles Town, for over 50 years.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at the Eackles-Spencer & Norton Funeral Home, 256 Halltown Road, Harpers Ferry/Charles Town, WV with Pastor Alvin Russell officiating. Interment will be in Edge Hill Cemetery in Charles Town.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday evening from 7-9 pm.
