"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day; and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." 2 Timothy 4:6-8.
No words can convey the depth of sorrow we feel upon the passing of our beloved mother, aunt, sister, grandmother, and friend. Mattie D. Mack moved to her heavenly home on Friday, November 9, 2012. Until the very end, she kept HOPE alive. While we rejoice that she has entered in to the presence of our Lord, there is now an emptiness in our own lives that we mourn. Time may ease the pain of our grief, but it will never diminish the void that remains in our hearts from her absence.
Mattie Dell entered into this world on September 4, 1927. She was one of four children born to the late John and Rebecca Mack.
She attended the public schools of Holly Hill, SC, graduating from Rosenwald School in 1948.
As a very young girl, she grew up in Target A.M.E. Church. She worked as a Missionary and served diligently as a member of the Angelic Choir, Stewardess Board #6 and the Usher Board and served diligently as a member of until she became too ill to attend.
Mattie was always a calm and compassionate person, with a ready smile. She stayed to herself and loved working with people. She worked many years for Dr. and Mrs. Kendall O. Fields and as a clerk at Bull's Drug Store.
She was predeceased by two brothers, a sister and a son.
Those left to cherish fond and loving memories are: her son, Johnny L. Mack, of Norfolk, VA, three nieces reared in the home as her own daughters, C. Jeanette and Raven Octavia, of Holly Hill, SC, Decole Scales Washington, of Charleston, SC; one granddaughter, Teetandeeahnahsee (Tandy) (Craig) Williams, of Holly Hill, SC, special sister, Beulah W. Edwards, of Apex, NC, daughter -in-law, Mae Frances Mack, two great-grandchildren, a devoted cousin, Beatrice J. Swett and numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
