ROJAS, Rudolph “Rudy” Rudolph Rojas, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle, passed away at his home in Lompoc on October 29, 2012. Rudy was born on October 27, 1921, to Pedro and Luz Rojas, in East Los Angeles. He spent most of his life in Lompoc until he entered the Navy as a Seabee in 1942 and fought in World War II. He was a carpenter in the 38th Naval Construction Battalion until his honorable discharge in 1945, and returned to Lompoc to be reunited with his beloved Connie Diaz, whom he married in 1947. They celebrated their 65th anniversary on September 6th of this year.
Rudy worked as a union carpenter until he retired in 1983. He never retired his role as carpenter, and built many homes for friends, giving a helping hand with his expertise. Rudy loved visiting friends in the community, barbecuing, and always started up conversations and maybe shared a joke with those he ran into. He loved to travel to Laughlin with his wife on chartered bus trips.
He enjoyed gardening, and loved sharing bouquets of flowers with others. The City of Lompoc awarded him Beautification Awards for his efforts. He was also an avid Dodger Baseball and Lompoc Braves fan, and traveled to many Stanford Football games. Rudy was always there for his grandchildren and would hold them for hours as babies and tell them they were angels from the sky but didn’t have wings because they could use bikes to travel with.
Survivors include his wife Consuelo “Connie”, of Lompoc, his sons Richard and Daniel, daughter Virginia, and grandchildren Adriana and Diego, all of Lompoc. He is also survived by two brothers, Trinidad, of Sunnyvale, CA, and Edward Garcia, of Goleta, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother Luz Rojas and his father Pedro Rojas. He was also preceded in death by siblings Robert and Edward Rojas, Lupe Espino, and Ray Garcia.
