TED WILLIAM JONES, age 59, of Chippewa Falls passed away at 12:48 p.m. on Nov 1, 2012 as a result complications from burns suffered in a fire on Aug. 8, 2012
Ted was born September 14, 1953 in Ogallala Neb., the son of Jesse Weldon Jones and Marjorie Belle (Stith) Jones. Ted attended school in several towns, including Ashland, Neb., Minot N.D., Yankton S.D., Eagle Butte S.D., Pierre, S.D. and North Platte, Neb. prior to putting down his roots in Chippewa Falls in 1963 where he graduated from Chippewa Falls Senior High in 1973. After graduation he earned an Associate Degree in Accounting from Chippewa Valley Technical College. Ted was a member of the Trinity Methodist Church of Chippewa Falls.
Ted was employed by the Chippewa Herald Telegram as a photo plate processer until the early 90’s when his work was taken over by computers. At this time, he began volunteer work for the Salvation Army logging over 160,000 hours serving his community for 24 years. In late 1997 Ted was awarded the Green Bay Packer Volunteer of the Year award for his dedicated service to the Salvation Army. Ted was a familiar figure in the community, walking to work, to the park where the zebras would eat from his hand and across the 124 Bridge after work to visit his brother Jay. He was rarely seen without a book or newspaper under his arm. He read ceaselessly, was a trivia wizard, and loved history, the civil war and facts. He enjoyed a verbal joust and was good at agreeing to disagree. He was a gentle soul who had never hurt anyone or caused anyone pain, living his life as he found it and enjoying the simple pleasures of god and nature.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Weldon and Marjorie (Stith) Jones of Chippewa Falls; Grandparents Jesse William & Grace (Boswell) Jones of Ashland, Neb., Grandmother Jennie (Heinrichs) Stith of Brule, Neb.; his aunts Ann (Jones) Holgrewe and Anita (Stith) Tofolla; his uncles Elwin Watson Jones and Arnold William Jones of Ashland, Neb., and William Stith of Boise, Idaho.
