Peggy J. Carpenter, age 89, of Amesville died early Thursday morning, Nov. 1, 2012 at The Laurels of Athens.
Born Oct. 22, 1923 in Ames Township, Athens County, she was the daughter of the late Charles & Mildred Zarley.
She was a graduate of Ames-Bern High School where she played basketball. She and her late husband owned and operated a dairy farm in Ames Township. She was a lifelong Amesville area resident. She enjoyed the outdoors, working on the farm and was an active participant in sports for many years.
Peggy is survived by her daughter, W Jean Anderson of Zanesville; her son, Chuck Carpenter of Chillicothe; three grandchildren- Andrea (Sean Janic) Anderson, Jessica Martin and Chris Carpenter; six great grandchildren; and a brother, James (Mary Ann) Zarley of Cincinnati.
Besides her parents she is preceded in death by her husband, Albert W. Carpenter; three sisters- Freda Clifford, Frances Brokhaw and Glenna Saylor.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday 1:00pm at Jagers & Sons Funeral Home, Athens, with Rev. James Lambert officiating. Friends may call 11:00am Monday until time of service at the funeral home. Cremation will follow.
