Gerald V. Henke, 85, of Cumru Twp., died on Tuesday, October 30, 2012 at the Reading Hospital and Medical Center.
Born in Reading, he was a son of the late Robert and Mary (Clay) Henke.
Gerald was a 39 year career veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force during W.W. II, Korea, and Vietnam. He retired from the 193rd. Air National Guard in Middletown, PA. Gerald was a lifelong musician. He performed locally at Ollie's Cocktail Lounge and later at the Guard House, both in Reading, for over 20 years. Many of his concerts were broadcast on local radio. He was a member of the 3J's Band in the military where he played for many high ranking dignitaries and several military outfits. He and his family, all musically gifted, performed concerts at Hershey and at the Rajah Shrine Temple in Reading.
Surviving is: Fiancée, Rose M. Hagy of Gouglersville, PA;
Children: Sharon, wife of Michael Goheen of Martinsville, Indiana; Steve Henke of Tucson, Arizona; Pamela, wife of Philip Ertel of Shillington, PA; and Eileen, wife of Kevin Brugger of Vinemont, PA.
Also survived by eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a sister, Marian, wife of Harold Trostle.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mae (Steele) Henke in 1989, one grandson and 12 siblings.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Giles & Yeckley Funeral Home and Crematorium, Inc., 21 Chestnut Street, Mohnton.
Interment will be in Wyomissing Cemetery, Sinking Spring.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2012 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
