Henry F. Gliniak of Newark, DE passed away peacefully at Franciscan Care Center Brackenville on Sunday, October 28, 2012 where he was loved and cared for by all the staff during the past year and a half, with his step-daughter, Sam, at his side.
He was the son of the late Anthony and Emilia Gliniak of Bear, DE.
Henry grew up in Wilmington, DE (Brown Town), where he attended St. Elizabeth’s. He played football, with the Polish Eagles (Brown Town) in the late 40’s and belonged to the VFW Polish/American club on 7th Ave. He was also a past president of the Delaware City Recreation Club where he was known for his love of dance and playing piano.
He was retired from J and H (Clay Brothers) Construction, where he was self-employed with his beloved brother Joe.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred (Poole) Gliniak and his former wife, Helen (Merlini), as well as by his brothers Joseph, Edward, Anthony, Richard and sister, Loretta.
He is survived by his stepdaughter, Samantha Lawruk (Tim) of Newark, DE. He is also survived by step-daughter, Marie Neppi and step-grandson Robert Neppi, as well as by his sisters, Cecilia Foote and Dorothy Matoni. Henry was kind, gentle and loved animals. His laughter, gentle heart and sparkling blue eyes will be sorely missed by all, especially by his stepdaughter, Sam.
Committal services will be held 1 pm on Friday, November 2 in the chapel at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue in Wilmington, DE, with entombment immediately following services.
