CARROLLTON – Mario Cappelli, 88, of the first block of Nelson Maine, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2012. He was a native of Boston, Massachusetts and the husband of Lois P. Arthurs. Mario was a retired Lt. Colonel and pilot in the U.S. Air Force serving in WW2 and Korea. Concurrent with his duties as an intelligence officer, he served as one of the original pilots in the Strategic Air Command.
Continuing his love of flying after retirement, Mario taught flying to students working on advanced ratings as high as airline transport pilot. He practiced his avocation of writing with espionage novels and one book, The Great Drake, on leadership. As an accomplished hypnotist he lectured students at The Ohio State University.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Dee Cappelli; a sister, Capella Zamost; two sisters-in-law, Mary Groder of Carrollton and Agnes Barnes of Ohio, a brother-in-law, David Arthurs, and one granddaughter, Athonia (Nia) Cappelli.
A private burial will be held at Albert G. Horton Memorial Cemetery, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to firstname.lastname@example.org. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
