Jack Alton Tyler, age 77 of Purcell, passed away Tuesday October 23, 2012. Jack was born January 17, 1935 in Sulphur, OK, the 7th of 8 children born to Charles Alexander Tyler and Myrtie Janette (Arnold) Tyler. He was raised in Sulphur and attended Sulphur Schools, graduating in 1952. Jack married young and had 4 children. During this time, he lived in the Sulphur and Ardmore area, and he worked as a salesman for the Oklahoma Hardware Co. Jack later met a young lady from Ada, OK and on March 9, 1973, he married his true love, Miss Barbara Sue Walker and her son Michael. They moved to Purcell in 1980 and purchased Vaughn’s Home Furnishings from Don and Ramona Vaughn. They changed the name, and in December of that year, Tyler’s Furniture was opened. Jack loved his community and gave much of his time to Civic projects. He was a member of the Purcell Chamber of Commerce, a Past Rotarian and a member of Purcell Main St., where he and his friend Joe Carwile, were instrumental in starting the Main Street Halloween Candy Giveaway. Jack loved kids and one could say, in many ways, that he was a kid at heart. He was an old car enthusiast and loved his ‘65’ Thunderbird and driving his 1953 Belair in City Parades. He liked to fish and loved to travel and especially in Colorado. He loved music and particularly, Southern Gospel and Country. But, most of all, Jack loved his family. He cherished his wife, his kids and grandkids and he looked forward to big family get togethers. For many years, they attended the Purcell Pentecostal Church and have attended the First Baptist Church for the last year. Jack Tyler will be greatly missed!
