A. Norma Fisher, 87 of DeKalb died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at the Oakcrest Retirement Center.
She was born on November 8, 1924 in Byesville, OH. The daughter of Mansel K. and Ruby I. (Kackley) Bates. She married Cletus G. Fisher on April 30, 1946 in Canton, OH. They were married for 55 wonderful years.
Norma was a graduate of McKinley High School in Canton, Class of 1942. After graduation, she studied Art in Chicago. During WWII, she worked testing airplane govenors/propellers and later worked at the Ohio State University. Her most rewarding job was being a stay home mother and wife in Iowa City, IA and DeKalb, IL.
Norma and her husband spent many memorable winters in St. Simons Island, GA. She was an avid golfer, enjoying her lady golfing buddies at River Heights golf course. She was loved and will be dearly missed by all.
Together Cletus and Norma raised two daughters, Jan (Tom) Jakobsen of Rockford and Jill (Ken) Boersma of DeKalb; two granddaughters, Krista Mercado (fiance- Jose del Risco) and Katie (Rory) Rohloff; two step grandchildren, Emily and Craig Jakobsen; two great grandchildren, Marina and Willow Mercado; and one brother, Donald (Emily) Bates.
She was preceded in death by her husband, "Fisher" and one brother, Merlin Bates. The family would like to thank the staff at the Oakcrest Retirement Center and DeKalb County Hospice for their care and support. Funeral Services will be private.
