William

William "Bill" Beaton, age 83, passed away on October 22, 2012. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 26 at 11:00 a.m. at Sea Pines Memorial Gardens, Edgewater.

Bill was born in Jacksonville, FL, graduating from Robert E. Lee High School in 1947. He graduated from Stetson University and went on to earn degrees from Florida State University and Ohio State University in Business Administration. Bill spent his entire career as a college professor starting at Mars Hill in NC. He taught at the University of Georgia, Virginia Commonwealth, University of Southern Mississippi, University of Florida, and finally retiring from Florida International University, after a total of 40 years of teaching. He was author of three textbooks, and numerous professional articles.

Bill loved Florida, especially the ocean. He spent many happy hours boating and fishing off Miami and the Keys. He also collected lighthouses and visited many in Florida during his lifetime. After retiring to New Smyrna Beach, he spent much of his time volunteering at Canaveral National Seashore and Bert Fish Hospital. He was a member of Coronado Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lillian; his son, Robert and wife Laurie; and 3 grandchildren, Morgan, Ryan, and Chaise.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Coronado Methodist Church music department, or The Parkinson Association of Greater Daytona Beach, P.O. Box 4193, Ormond Beach, Florida 32175.
