Cleo Perdue Short

Rapidan…..Cleo Perdue Short, age 64 of 7501 Moormont Road, Rapidan died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at her residence. Born November 5, 1947 in Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late John William (Bill) Perdue, Jr. and Mary Jane Mattox Perdue. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Orange, VA. Mrs. Short was a Magna Cum Laude graduate and later served on the Board of Visitors for Elon College. She was a school teacher for the Orange County School System and was a local business woman. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren, quilting, canoeing, snow skiing, and riding motorcycles across the country. She is survived by her husband, Thomas Edward Short, Jr.; two sons, Thomas E. Short III and his wife, Jennifer of Richmond, and William R. Short of Washington D.C.; one daughter, Elizabeth M. Short of Chicago; one sister, Donna Giardina and her husband, Vincent of Bethlehem, PA; one brother, Bill Perdue and his wife, Renee of Arden, NC; three grandchildren, Thomas Short, Katherine Short, and Madeleine Short; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Friday, October 26, 2012 at Preddy Funeral Home Chapel in Madison, VA by Rev. Forest Porter and Rev. Tom Barnard. Graveside services will be conducted 12:00 P.M. Saturday, October 27, 2012 at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens in Roanoke, VA by Rev. Ronnie Morris. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday, October 25, 2012 at Preddy Funeral Home in Madison, VA and other times will be at the residence. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions may be made to the Cleo Short Memorial Cancer Fund in care of Bank of America, P.O. Box 1104, Orange, VA 22960.
